SCI Moves Towards the Future

In December 2007 I noted that I expected change at SCI to accelerate reflecting changes in the construction industry.  I am delighted to report that as I approach the end of my first official six months in office (positive) change is occurring.

Ending what will be a very successful 2007/08 (many thanks to my predecessor!) we have an extremely strong order book as we move in to 2008/09.  We are also refocusing our activities and investments so that we can better serve the sector with its needs, in particular the ever-closer reality of using the Eurocodes.  Look out for new publications and courses in the coming months.

To meet the challenges of the year ahead I am delighted to tell you that we have managed to recruit three new engineers during the past quarter, despite how difficult this can be in the current climate.  They will extend our general engineering capability and bring particular expertise to our engineering software programing and fire engineering areas.  By the time of the next newsletter I hope to be able to report back on more successes as our interviewing process continues and we further reinvigorate the institute with new blood.
