SCI Assessment Services

The SCI offers a range of assessment services which cover all aspects of steel construction. Some of these services involve the SCI working in partnership to build confidence and raise standards within the industry. Product manufacturers and system suppliers come to SCI for assessment of their products and the performance of their systems because SCI's brand, independence and expertise place SCI in a unique position to offer technical assessment services to the sector.

The SCI Assessment Services are appropriate for a wide range of products and systems and their related technical data (structural and non-structural) and design procedures.  This is illustrated by the list below which is a selection of current and previous SCI Assessment Services projects.

  • Structural assessment of light steel framing systems
  • Assessment of performance in fire of proprietary systems
  • CE Marking for proprietary construction products
  • Structural assessment of roof systems
  • Acoustic assessment of floor systems
  • Structural assessment of floor decks
  • Validation of design values derived from testing
  • Assessment of thermal bridging in proprietary systems
  • Structural assessment of purlins
  • Production of load span tables and capacity tables for proprietary products
  • Structural assessment of modular construction systems

There are currently four different assessment and certification services which the SCI either provides directly or in which the SCI is a key technical expertise provider. These are; SCI Assessed, SCI/NHBC Stage 1 System Certification, Q-Mark and Buildoffsite Registration Scheme. The main features of these schemes are summarised in the table below.
