New course on floor vibration
Are you designing offices, commercial, residential or hospital buildings and have to perform floor vibration analysis on floor systems?
You need to consider SCI’s Publication P354, Design of Floors for Vibration: A New Approach (sponsored by Corus). This provides guidance to adhere to standards for vibration design of all steel-framed floor and building types and provides a practical method for assessing likely floor vibration behaviour.
New standards will force you to perform a more meticulous vibration analysis and you need reliable and accurate ways to make sure that your designs conform.
SCI and Bentley have joined forces to present a free half-day seminar on determining floor vibration response in steel floors. This seminar will explain the theory behind floor dynamics and what issues affect the vibration performance. The content will help you decide which method of analysis to use.
Alongside the theory presented by SCI, Bentley will demonstrate the RAM Structural System 'FloorVibe' Software. This provides comprehensive analysis of the vibration characteristics of floor systems. The software allows you to investigate and design the floor vibration in accordance with the design guidance in the SCI Publication P354.

SCI Public Courses
SCI have put together a new course schedule for 2008 and will be running courses throughout the UK and Ireland. SCI welcome Jane Burrell as their new Courses Administrator. Jane will look after the new schedule of courses and for the forthcoming months these will include: Preparation for Eurocodes, Composite design to EC4, Portal Frame design, Frame Stability, Floor Vibrations. As new courses become available they will be added onto the SCI website.
SCI In-house courses
SCI are also able to run courses at your premises, an effective way to train a number of people at one time in one place. Course content for these courses can be customised to complement your company’s specific training requirements.
Regional presentations
SCI also present evening and 4 hour lectures and courses for the regional branches of ISE, if your organisation or branch require an SCI lecture or course, please contact us if you would like to arrange a lecture or course in your local branch.
