It’s Official – Steel NCCI

A breakthrough in usability for steel Eurocodes was achieved late 2008. The Steel Sector’s web site for collection of Non Conflicting Complementary Information (NCCI), designed to support practical Eurocode use, was accepted as an accredited source of information by the British Standards Institute (BSI). The site (http://www.steel-ncci.co.uk/) is referenced directly from the National Annexe to BS EN 1993-1-1.

What are NCCI; Why are they important; Where can I get them?

All vital questions for unlocking the undoubted technical advances that can be wrought from the structural Eurocodes.

They are information that unlocks the practical use of Eurocodes. You can find them for constructional steelwork design at:

http://www.steel-ncci.co.uk/

SCI on behalf of the Steel Sector, have delivered a web site for the collection and provenance checking of NCCI that might be offered to support the use of the Steel Eurocodes. The resulting question was whether all NCCI content had to be moved through the BSI Standards drafting committees or whether the Sector could seek and find credible solutions to the information gaps in the Eurocodes and offer these to other designers without formal BSI involvement.

Historically the responsiveness of the Steel Construction Sector to design issues thrown up by standards publication has been impressive. After some debate the British Standards Institute was convinced that the Steel Construction Sector was technically and professionally competent to organize this for practicing designers.

The Steel NCCI web site is now formally referenced in the National Annexe to BS EN 1993-1-1 Eurocode 3: Design of Steel Structures Part 1-1: General Rules and Rules for Buildings.

The SCI have seeded the site with 50 pieces of NCCI aimed at unlocking design for most common building structures. Overtime these will be subsumed into developing standards and more NCCI will be added to cover identified information gaps.
