IHS and SCI launch a Euro blue book

SCI have teamed up with IHS to launch the SCI Euro blue book. It is an essential tool for steel designers, giving section properties and member capacities in tabular form for use in design to BS EN 1993-1:2007; the pan-European design standards for structural steel.

The onset of the Eurocodes have resulted in significant technical changes to the rules to which steelwork is designed: the new electronic product represents a major advance in scheme design through the use of ‘blue book’ tables. Designers can now customise their own blue book, generate bespoke tables for particular element geometries, store these tables by project and add post-it notes.

The product can be infinitely customised. Users may elect to show only certain section ranges including the Corus Advance® and ‘BS’ standard range; they may even select certain members from the section range and only certain design behaviours for that range. The Euro blue book guidance notes are contextually linked to the information being browsed to assist designers in understanding the capacity figures represented.

The partnership between IHS and SCI already enables new SCI material to be put immediately in The Construction Information Service, an expert knowledge tool that delivers key technical information critical to all construction projects in one easy-to-use on-line package. The extensive range of full-text documents cover all aspects of the building, engineering, design and construction processes allowing organisations to complete project.
