Helical Piles undergo Assessment
The SCI Assessed third party verification scheme continues to be popular with suppliers from all parts of the steel construction sector. The latest product to be assessed is a helical screw pile system from Sub-Surface Technologies Ltd (SST).

Helical piles used for underpinning
Sub-Surface Technologies Ltd (SST) is the exclusive importer and distributor of Chance Helical Piling Systems into the UK civil construction market. SST approached the SCI to obtain an independent third party assessment of the Chance Helical Piling System, which they distribute. The primary reason for wanting the assessment will be to satisfy a request from NHBC for third party verification of the piling system and its associated design procedures. NHBC recommended SCI to SST.
The SCI has a long history of expertise in the use of steel below ground as well as above. The assessment for SST will consider the following aspects:
1. Geotechnical parameters and geotechnical design considerations
2. Design procedures
3. Durability
4. Testing criteria
5. Construction details at pile heads
6. Compliance with the Building Regulations
7. Contractor appraisal system
The assessment is expected to be completed in early January 2010.
