SCI/NHBC Certification for Surebuild

Framing Solutions Surebuild system has recently obtained SCI/NHBC Stage 1 - System Certification. The Surebuild system is certified for residential buildings up to six storeys high. The SCI’s technical experts in light steel framing worked closely with the Framing Solutions technical design department to ensure that the technical manual for the system and the supporting information contained all the necessary information for the SCI to fully assess the system.

The SCI is currently working on the assessment of several different light steel frame systems for SCI/NHBC System Certification. This scheme provides ‘Stage 1 – System certification’ for light steel frame systems. The SCI are approved by NHBC to carry out certification of light steel framing systems to ensure they meet the requirements of Chapter 6.10 (for light steel walls and floors) of the prescribed NHBC Standards.

SCI/NHBC System Certification effectively provides the system manufacturer with pre-approval of their system. The second stage of the NHBC approval process is ‘Project certification’; where a project certifier will check that a specific building/development is within the scope of the system’s Stage 1 certificate (issued by the SCI) and that it has been built is accordance with the system’s technical manual (assessed by the SCI for Stage 1).

A register of all light steel frame systems is held by both the NHBC and the SCI.
