BS1192: 2007: It’s not just about CAD anymore
The B/555 Construction design, modelling and data exchange committee of the British Standards Institute has prepared a Draft for Public Consultation (DPC) for BS1192: 2007 Collaborative production of architectural, engineering and, construction information – Code of practice.
Note that the standard has changed its name to reflect the increase in its scope and also the changes to industrial practice.
The standard establishes the methodology for managing the production, distribution and quality of construction information, including that generated by CAD systems, using a disciplined process for collaboration and a specified naming policy. The standard is applicable to all parties involved in the preparation and use of such information throughout the design, construction, operation and deconstruction of projects and throughout the supply chain. The standard also acts as a guide for developers of applications to enable them to support the implementation of this standard through the provision of configuration files or application add-ons.
Those wishing to view the Draft for Public Consultation should contact Nicholas Nisbet, nn@aec3.com, for a copy.
Any comments should be sent to the Secretary of the committee, Alan Hall, alan.hall@bsi-global.com, by 31st August 2007 using the comments template available from http://isotc.iso.org/livelink/livelink/818907/ISO_commenting_template.doc?func=doc.Fetch&nodeid=818907. The B/555 committee will be meeting in September 2007 to consider incorporating any further changes (along with final editorial formatting and diagrams) having reviewed the comments received.
